The Controls & Workshop Manager is responsible for leading the Controls Engineering and Electrical Build teams while overseeing workshop operations for the assembly, wiring, testing and commissioning of robotic and automated systems.
This role combines technical leadership, workshop management, project delivery, resource planning and continuous improvement.
Controls Engineering Leadership:
- Lead and manage Controls Engineers, Electrical Designers and PLC Programmers.
- Provide technical direction for automation and robotic control-system design.
- Establish engineering standards, templates and best practices.
- Review and approve controls architecture, electrical schematics and software designs.
- Ensure controls solutions are robust, scalable and compliant with customer requirements.
Workshop Operations:
Manage daily machine build, wiring, testing and integration activities, allocating resources across multiple projects and ensuring workshop activities align with project schedules.
You'll monitor labour utilisation and productivity while developing workshop procedures and maintaining standards throughout the facility.
Automation & Controls:
You'll oversee PLC control systems, HMI and SCADA applications, industrial networking, motion and servo systems, robotic integration, machine safety, vision inspection and data acquisition/MES interfaces.
Platforms may include Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, Beckhoff TwinCAT, Mitsubishi GX Works, Omron Sysmac and ABB, FANUC, KUKA, UR and Yaskawa robotic systems.
Project Delivery:
You'll support project planning, estimating and scheduling, monitor milestones and engineering deliverables, support FAT and SAT and manage commissioning and technical support requirements.
Applicants should ideally hold an HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical, Controls, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering, with 8–10+ years' industrial automation or machine-building experience and 3–5+ years in a leadership or management role.
