We're recruiting a Mechanical Engineer / Fitter for a well-established manufacturer of food products.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance and availability of production machinery and equipment.
You'll carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs and mechanical installations across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery and site equipment.
- Respond quickly and effectively to mechanical breakdowns.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and identify root causes.
- Repair, replace and overhaul mechanical components.
- Carry out routine inspections and condition monitoring.
- Install, modify and commission new and existing machinery.
- Work on conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, bearings, valves, pneumatics and mechanical drives.
- Carry out alignment, fitting, assembly and adjustment.
- Support production teams and minimise machinery downtime.
- Work closely with electrical and controls engineers to resolve complex faults.
- Identify opportunities to improve machine reliability.
- Assist with machinery upgrades, modifications and continuous-improvement projects.
- Maintain high hygiene standards and comply with food-manufacturing requirements.
- Follow appropriate HACCP, BRCGS and food-safety procedures where applicable.
The equipment can include conveyor systems, packaging machinery, filling and dosing equipment, processing machinery, pumps and motors, gearboxes and drives, pneumatic systems, valves and actuators, mixers and agitators, weighing systems, wrapping and labelling equipment and automated production lines.
You'll need previous experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Engineer or similar with strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
Previous food manufacturing, FMCG or packaging experience would be advantageous, as would pneumatics, hydraulics, welding/fabrication and experience with automated production lines.
